nouna market situation in which there is only one buyer
How It Works
Master the art of war contracting through strategic gameplay
Competitive Bidding
Engage in double-blind auctions for war contracts. Assemble your best resources, play chance cards, and outmaneuver opponents.
Resource Management
Collect STEM talent, cleared personnel, factory capacity, and rare materials. Match the right resources to win contracts.
Portfolio Building
Complete portfolios across R&D, Construction, Logistics & Sustainment, Munitions, and Platforms. Diversify across sides to meet win conditions.
Event Chaos
Navigate continuing resolutions, sequestration, GAO audits, and Nunn-McCurdy breaches. Adapt your strategy to survive.

About War is a Game
What is Monopsony?
Monopsony is the economic term for a market with a single buyer. In the war industry, the U.S. Department of War is often the dominant (and sometimes only) customer for military hardware.
This satirical board game parodies the procurement system, combining Monopoly-style property ownership with Catan-style resource management and competitive bidding mechanics.
Our Mission
Educate through entertainment. Learn about SBIR programs, Nunn-McCurdy breaches, continuing resolutions, and the acquisition lifecycle — all while having fun with friends and family.
Whether you're a war industry veteran or just curious about where your tax dollars go, Monopsony offers a humorous window into the bureaucratic maze of government contracting.
Why We Made This
After years of navigating the war procurement system, we realized the absurdity deserved its own game. The bidding wars, the resource constraints, the unexpected events — it was already a game, just not a fun one. Now it is.
